DUE TO NEW TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS, RIPTA TO RESTRUCTURE ROUTE 55 (ADMIRAL/PROVIDENCE COLLEGE) BEGINNING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2011

November 18, 2011

November 18, 2011

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will restructure Route 55 (Admiral/Providence College) in response to new traffic restrictions set by the City of Providence. New traffic signage installed on Fillmore Street in Providence near Times2 Academy limits vehicular traffic on the street during certain hours in the morning and afternoon. The signage was installed in response to safety concerns for Times2 Academy students. Route 55 will be re-routed beginning Monday, November 21, 2011.

RIPTA passengers who currently board the bus on Fillmore Street are instructed to walk to the Admiral Street bus stop for the Route 55 bus or to the Douglas Avenue bus stop for the Route 50 (Douglas Ave.) bus.

Route 55 will continue to service the Providence Place Mall.

The re-routing will occur as follows: Inbound trips traveling into the city will travel the regular route to Huxley Avenue, right onto Admiral Street, right onto Charles Street, right onto Ashburton Street through to Charles Street through to Canal Street, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips traveling out of the city will travel the regular route to Charles Street, left onto Admiral Street, left onto Huxley Avenue, and then resume regular route.
