DUE TO WINTER STORM EFFECTS, RIPTA TO DETOUR FIVE ROUTES ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2014 – Updated 4:30pm

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that due to the effects of the winter storm, five bus routes will be on detour starting today until further notice. RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes before and after the winter storm due to weather conditions. The safety of our employees and passengers is RIPTA’s top priority. RIPTA apologizes for the inconvenience and asks for the public’s understanding as we work around the clock to resume service.

The following routes are on detour today, February 5, 2014 until further notice:

URI Hill Climber:
All service cancelled.

Route 27:
Service to Hillcrest Apartments suspended.

Route 49:
No service to Miriam Hospital.

Inbound trips will serve the regularly scheduled time points at the intersection of Camp and Pleasant Streets.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Camp Street and Rochambeau Avenue, right onto Rochambeau Avenue, right onto Ivy Street, right onto Dana Street, left onto Camp Street, and then resume regular route to Inbound.

Route 52:
Service to Metcalf Court suspended.

Route 64:
Service to URI Bay Campus will turn around at the Visitors Center; service will not loop around campus.

RIde Program

All RIde Program services, except for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and vital medical trips (ex. Dialysis), have been suspended today, Wednesday, February 5, 2014. All RIde Program services will be reinstated on Thursday, February 6, 2014. The RIde reservation line (401-461-9760) will be open today during their normal schedule from 6:00am to 7:00pm.

RIPTA’s emergency preparedness plan focuses first on safety and second on attempting to accommodate as many passengers as possible traveling within Rhode Island. Throughout the winter storm, RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes due to the inclement weather.

Passengers are strongly advised to monitor news reports, check www.RIPTA.com and RIPTA’s social media outlets (Facebook @RideRIPTA ,Twitter @RIPTA_RI) for service advisory updates. RIPTA urges passengers to sign up for electronic News Updates at http://www.ripta.com/detours-news; RIPTA will e-mail system disruption notices to passengers on this distribution list.
