HOV Parking Discount at Providence Place Mall Suspended for Holiday Season

October 26, 2017

Discounted parking rates for High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV) at the Providence Place Mall will be suspended for the holiday season, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today.  Per agreement with the State of Rhode Island, LAZ Parking will suspend its HOV Carpool Parking Program at Providence Place from November 1, 2017 through January 31, 2018.  Carpools will still be able to use the garage but will not be eligible for a discounted rate during that time period.   RIPTA’s Commuter Resource RI (CCRI) team promotes HOV parking discounts at the mall to encourage carpools and the resultant reduction of people commuting alone in their cars.

The HOV Parking Program at Providence Place was launched in 2002 and is available to registered carpoolers from 6 am to 6pm, Monday through Friday.  According to LAZ, all existing carpool participants will have to reregister in 2018.

What Is Commuter Resource RI?

RIPTA’s Commuter Resource RI program offers one-stop shopping for your commuting needs. CRRI provides transportation information and services to Rhode Island corporations and employees in order to: reduce single occupancy vehicle travel, increase high occupancy vehicle (HOV) commuting, reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality and maximize use of public transportation. RIPTA’s CRRI team offers free comprehensive, customized information on a variety of commuting options — including carpooling, vanpooling, public transit, rail transportation and biking.  For information on CRRI services, call 401-784-9575, email commuter@ripta.com or visit http://www.ripta.com/commuter-resource.
