RIPTA PREPARES FOR WINTER STORM NIKA

In anticipation of the winter storm, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is urging passengers to sign up for electronic News Updates at http://www.ripta.com/detours-news; RIPTA will e-mail system disruption notices to passengers on this distribution list. Passengers are strongly advised to monitor news reports, check www.RIPTA.com and RIPTA’s social media outlets (Facebook @RideRIPTA ,Twitter @RIPTA_RI) for service advisory updates. Customers are advised to use extra caution at bus stops, as conditions may be slippery.

As the winter storm continues to move toward New England, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is working closely with emergency officials to prepare for possible service impacts caused by winter conditions. RIPTA’s emergency preparedness plan focuses first on safety and second on attempting to accommodate as many passengers as possible traveling within Rhode Island. Throughout the winter storm later tonight and tomorrow, RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes due to the inclement weather.

Park-N-Ride Service
RIPTA will remain in close communication with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) in order to monitor snow removal at Park-N-Ride lots. Passengers signed up for electronic News Updates will be notified in the early morning regarding the status of the Park-N-Ride lots, as well as service to and from the lots.

RIde Program
All RIde Program services, except for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and vital medical trips, have been suspended on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. All RIde Program services will be reinstated on Thursday, February 6, 2014. The RIde reservation line (401-461-9760) will be open today during their normal schedule from 6:00am to 7:00pm.
