RIPTA COMMENTS ON POLICE REPORT REGARDING LAST WEEK’S ACCIDENT

April 3, 2015

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has received a copy of the Providence Police Department report regarding its investigation into last week’s tragic fatal accident

The report states that the bus was traveling below the speed limit of 25 miles per hour and that there was no error on the part of the bus operator.

RIPTA appreciates the work of the Providence Police and this remains a tragic accident for all involved.

On Friday, April 3, 2015, Raymond E. Studley, CEO of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, Chairman of RIPTA’s Board of Directors respond to the police findings with the following statement:

“Nothing changes the fact that this was a heartbreaking accident that has forever changed the lives of all involved.  The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority was notified by Providence Police that their investigation has found that this tragedy occurred through no fault of one of our operators. Still, it is a sad reminder that everyone needs to always be thinking “safety first” when on the road – whether it be motor vehicle operators, bicyclists or pedestrians.”
