The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will implement fall service changes effective Saturday, August 29, 2015. RIPTA makes regular service adjustments three times a year in response to seasonal changes and/or passenger use.
2015 Fall Service Changes
These annual changes are moderate and include the start of selected fall services, trip time changes, route enhancements, as well as rescheduling for better on-time performance.
Fall services scheduled to start August 29TH include daily service on Route 67 (Bellevue/Mansions/Salve Regina University) to Salve Regina University and Marble
House. Also, an additional outbound trip has been added on Route 64 (Newport/URI) to accommodate Met School students traveling to Tower Hill.
Route 54 (Lincoln / Woonsocket) has been extended to terminate at Community Care Alliance on John Cummings Way. The bus stop at the Woonsocket Depot has been eliminated. Passengers will now use bus stops along Clinton, Main and Social Streets to transfer between routes. Route 54 will now also operate through Dowling Village Blvd. in both directions. Bus stops have been established on Dowling Village Blvd. and passengers will board and alight from the new locations along the road. The bus stop on the side of Walmart will be eliminated and replaced with a stop on Dowling Village Blvd.
Service frequency has been increased during peak travel times on the following routes to accommodate overcrowding: Routes 1, 17, 19, 20, 22, 27, 28, 31, 50, 51, 55, 56, 57 and the R-Line. RIPTA has also added additional service on several Providence routes to accommodate Providence high school students. Passengers are strongly encouraged to check new schedules for how service changes may affect them. They may also pick up the leaflet entitled Fall Service Changes Effective August 29, 2015 that is available at Kennedy Plaza; the leaflet is also viewable online.
