The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that it will reopen its Photo Identification Office at Kennedy Plaza two days a week, beginning Monday, November 14, 2016. Last month, RIPTA moved the office to its main headquarters on Elmwood Avenue to better utilize staff and to be able to keep the office open five days a week. The transit authority has decided to return the office to Kennedy Plaza for two days a week after listening to customer concerns, said Barbara Polichetti, Director of Public Affairs for RIPTA. The Photo ID Office will now be open at Kennedy Plaza on Monday and Wednesday of each week. It will be open Tuesday and Thursday of each week at RIPTA’s headquarters at 705 Elmwood Avenue, Providence.
Operational hours will be the same at both locations: from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 p.m. Both locations will be closed on Friday to accommodate road trips to senior centers throughout the state. “After we announced moving the office to Elmwood Avenue, we heard from passengers who were concerned that this location would not be as convenient for them,” Polichetti said. “Any time we make changes we want to hear from our customers so we can respond accordingly.”
The staff at the Photo Identification Office processes applications for special pass programs and also handles requests for replacement passes if they are lost or stolen.
