In anticipation of a severe winter storm impacting the state on Thursday, January 4, 2018, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is urging passengers tosign up for electronic RIPTA News updates at https://www.ripta.com/service-alerts. RIPTA will e-mail system disruption notices to passengers on this distribution list. Detour information will also be available on www.RIPTA.com and RIPTA’s social media outlets (Facebook @RideRIPTA ,Twitter @RIPTA_RI). Passengers are urged to monitor news reports as well.
Due to extreme cold temperatures, RIPTA will continue extended hours of operation at the Kennedy Plaza Intermodal Transportation Center building this week in order to give passengers a place to stay warm while waiting for their buses. The building, which normally closes at 7pm, will remain open until 10pm until further notice. The hours for the Ticket Window will not be extended during this time, and the window will be staffed during its normal weekday hours of 7am to 6pm.
Passengers are also advised that severe snow storms sometimes force RIPTA to suspend all service and to please plan accordingly.
RIde Paratransit Passengers: If RIPTA finds it necessary to suspend service, all RIde trips will also be suspended.
Park N’ Ride Passengers: Please be prepared to find an alternate way home in the event RIPTA service is suspended. Please remember that safety is our top priority.
As the Winter Storm Grayson continues to move toward New England, RIPTA is working with state emergency officials to prepare for the impact of the forecasted snow and winds. RIPTA’s emergency preparedness plan focuses first on safety and second on attempting to accommodate as many passengers as possible traveling within Rhode Island.
Customers are advised to use extra caution at bus stops, as conditions may be slippery.
