Discounted parking rates for High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV) at the Providence Place Mall will be suspended for the holiday season, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today. Per agreement with the State of Rhode Island, LAZ Parking will suspend its HOV Carpool Parking Program at Providence Place from November 1, 2017 through January 31, 2018. Carpools will still be able to use the garage but will not be eligible for a discounted rate during that time period. RIPTA’s Commuter Resource RI (CCRI) team promotes HOV parking discounts at the mall to encourage carpools and the resultant reduction of people commuting alone in their cars.
The HOV Parking Program at Providence Place was launched in 2002 and is available to registered carpoolers from 6 am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. According to LAZ, all existing carpool participants will have to reregister in 2018.
