The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is currently accepting applications for funding for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5317 New Freedom Program. Proposals must be submitted by 12:00PM on January 15, 2013 to the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority.
The New Freedom Program is open to private non-profit organizations, state or local governmental authorities, and public or private operators of public transportation services. The purpose of the New Freedom program is to provide new public transportation services and public transportation alternatives beyond those required by the Americans with Disabilities Act that assist individuals with disabilities with transportation, including transportation to and from jobs and employment support services. The priority for projects is the remediation of environmental barriers that prevent the use of public transportation services.

RIPTA, the State’s Mobility Manager, operates over 3,000 daily bus trips on over 50 bus routes throughout the state. Last year, we provided 20 million rides.
