The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will implement its express service to South County beaches, beginning Saturday, June 23RD as a part of its annual summer service changes. RIPTA makes regular service adjustments three times a year in response to seasonal changes and/or passenger use.
Starting Saturday, June 23and running through Sunday, August 26, 2018, Beach Buses will travel from the downtown Woonsocket (John Cummings Way at Community Care Alliance), Cranston City Hall, Central Falls (Dexter & West Hunt Streets) Pawtucket Transit Center, and North Providence City Hall to Scarborough, Salty Brine and Roger Wheeler Beaches. Service from Central Falls will now begin from Dexter and West Hunt Streets and operate local via Dexter Street to downtown Pawtucket. These buses stop in Kennedy Plaza on their way to the beaches, with the exception of the bus leaving from Central Falls and Pawtucket.
Route 66 (URI/Galilee) also provides 7-day-a-week, year-round service to the beaches from Kennedy Plaza running every 60 minutes to the South County beaches. Therefore, if passengers want to come home early or late, they have more options.
A one-way express trip to the beach costs the standard bus fare ($2.00), payable on board, or customers may use their RIPTA passes. For the beach service trip times, including service from Woonsocket, North Providence, Cranston, Central Falls and Pawtucket, the public should consult the new 2018 Beach Bus Schedule (see attached).
