Ray Studley, CEO of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA), and Board Chairman Mayor Scott Avedisian will be at Kennedy Plaza early on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, to ride to school with some of the thousands of Providence public school students who rely on RIPTA to get them to their classes.
They will be joined by Amy Pettine, Executive Director of Planning for RIPTA, and will be available to talk about the logistics of transporting students to the city’s high schools during peak hours in the mornings and afternoons. More Providence high school students than ever – approximately 3,000 – are riding RIPTA this year following the city’s recent decision to provide passes for students
RIPTA is handling the change with more buses on the road, supervisors at the schools and outreach programs to distribute schedules at the schools. It’s still a work in progress, but RIPTA officials wanted to be on one of the buses to talk to students and see how the new school year is starting off.
